4 photos - The irreplaceable Isabella Blow (1958–2007)

Isabella Blow. Known for her flamboyant style. She was a pivotal, irreplaceable force in fashion due to her ability to discover and nurture avant-garde talent.such as Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen.

We saw her once getting off a train in Victoria station.  A hat box dangling from each wrist and a porter carrying her Louis Vuitton luggage. She was just getting of her train and it looked like a fashion shoot and the whole world was suddenly more glamorous.

She was extraordinary. disinherited from her aristocratic family leaving her financially insecure she some how managed to fund her obsession with Fashion including buying Alexander McQueen entire graduate collection.

Fashion designers, editors, writers, photographers are one thing but someone has to buy the stuff and live the life and that someone was Isabella Blow.

She didn't have an easy life but she was amazing

Pip pip.

  1. A HUGE fan of her and her style.Hats, hats, HATS!!!!!

Is it any wonder I adore her as she and another favorite of mine Anne Wintour worked together. Anna Wintour and Isabella Blow worked together early in their careers. In the early 1980s, Isabella Blow was hired as Anna Wintour's assistant at American Vogue. Blow was hired by Wintour in 1981–1982 while Wintour was fashion director of US Vogue, where Wintour has recalled being very fond of Blow's eccentric style, noting she never knew what to expect, as Blow would appear dressed as everything from a "maharaja" to a "punk". While Wintour liked her, Blow was eventually transferred to assist André Leon Talley, imagine those two together.... because another assistant found that working with the eclectic Blow created more work. When Blow left to return to London in 1986, Wintour provided a high recommendation.

Alas.... not many, if any fashion stalwarts left to keep on eye on things.

  2. I don't follow fashion so much as I follow red carpet shoots and event galleries - and you can tell this woman has IT. Now I get to go look her up!

  3. Les excentriques rendent la vie glorieux.
Quelle panaché et quelle honnêteté Mademoiselle Blow possédait,
    fidèle à elle-même :)

  4. WOW! Fantastic photos, sweetpea. My fashion heyday tended towards bell bottoms, belly chains, scarf blouses, and sandals, then right into maternity clothes and Mom jeans! LOL Thanks, Maddie for the fashion history lesson. xoxo

    1. I am not sure that I can even aspire to that magnitude of Wow. But we do have a lot of hat boxes.
