The Delargo Gardens - August

Here we is again me dears; where has the month gone? Time has flown by and we are into late Summer already.

As you know our Blue Lace Cap Hydrangea was definitely pink last month. We applied a bluing agent but to late to change the open blooms but the new shoots are a much nicer colour and next year we will make sure it is all bluer than blue.

The Begonias have flowered well all Summer and are still looking fab

While the other phlox were at their peak last month this one - Blue Paradise - has waited till now and is rather lovely.

Rosa Gertrude Jekyll must be enjoying the extra sun and has given us a second flush.

I am over the moon with both of our new Thalictrum, above is delavayi

  above is Thalictrum Hewitt's Double

and a new stop on the tour, the 'Top Field'

  1. You captured the atmosphere of our garden in August beautifully - even though we were away for a week of it, and the weather turned to shit when we got back, it's still a lovely time to sit back and reap all the benefits of the hard work watering and feeding earlier in the year. Very happy with the profusion of blooms! Jx

  2. I tell you between you boys, and the Mistress Borghese, these are two gardens I always look forward to seeing post of. And as usual yours still looks spectacular for late summer. And the hydrangeas are a funny thing. I have two hydrangea bushes. One year they could be pink, one year dark purple and then the following year they could be blue. It all has to do with temperatures and the acid in the soil from what I understand herea at least. So from year to year you never know what color they're going to be.

And it also looks like you boys had a lovely vacation from Jon's blog post. You all disappeared at the same time as the mistress I thought maybe there was some kind of conclave going on.

  3. I've also read that about hydrangeas - that the colour is dependant on the acidity of the soil - I do like a good blue bloom - so I look forward to seeing that next year!
    All gorgeous up your ginnel!!

    1. Indeed so Ms Scarlet. Alkaline soil = Pink. Acid soil = Blue. Potting compost is alkaline hence the bluing agent but applied to late. Next year my dear Ms Scarlet they will be bluer than Blue.

Donny is over the moon and say's that you are now the leader of his fan club (which is very small indeed) and he is sending you as much good luck as he can muster.
