A year on One Page. Delargo Towers 2024

Here we are then me darlins with the the last of the reviews of 2024.

The Gardens of Delargo Towers 2024.

2024 was not our best gardening year methinks. Lack of time and the increasing shade from the weed trees has noticeably reduced our flower power compared with previous years but the garden is still a joy and we are now finding interesting shade lovers to replace the plants that we want to grow but cant.

Well there we are then me dears a whole gardening year in a nut shell

Donny is laughing and saying that soon all we will be able to grow is ferns and that’s ok cuz he loves ferns. Looking at previous years of 'Year on One Page' he might well be right.

We Love ferns as well but we want flowers too. Fuchsias and begonias are filling the gap, Petunias and Dahlias are out but I am sure we will find some more shade lovers.

Roll on Spring and tiz time to grab your the seed catalogues and plan for next year.

We look forward to seeing you in the garden proper again in 2025. but till then It's -

  1. Oh, if only we could get a local lumberjack to tackle those bastard weed trees with his handy chopper! Let's also hope for a decent Spring, so we can get out there and start re-potting and cossetting some of the plants that should have performed better for us, shade or no shade... Jx

    1. It would be lovely to get hold of a lumberjack with a big chopper but they only come at a price dear.
      Roll on Spring.

  2. I have learned from your post of lovely pictures...your growing and blooming season starts way before ours. The first thing to bloom here are the lawn crocus, and that's not till early April. There is nill in the garden here, except my rosemary.

    1. Hello, dear Mistress.
We should have the first daffodils in bloom in February but you have Beautiful sun loving flowers like Zinnia in the summer. So it's all swings and roundabouts. The important thing is to enjoy what you have xxx

    1. Thank you Ms Scarlet and "Yep, roll on May".
The end of March can be pleasant, I have my fingers crossed for April but by May we should be out of the woods.

  4. I think I scrolled through too fast as 2024 went by in a flash! I'm going back to loll around in May until January & February 2025 are over with, then I might return for March. As long as it's a better one than last year.

P.S. It's rather fun seeing where Donny ends up month to month!

  5. Are the "weed trees" growing in someone else's yard or an abandoned lot? Maybe if other neighbors like them as little as you do you could work together to get them removed if you think it's worth the effort. I love that you were able to take pictures throughout the whole year and put it together! It's so much fun to see.

    1. Lovely to see you in the garden Melanie if I may call you that. I have no idea why you are not on my reading list but this shall be put right forthwith. I also hope you have a speedy recovery
Thank you for your concern about the evil weed trees.
They are indeed all in other peoples gardens. Even so I have climbed and hacked down what I can but they are very big and keep growing bigger and bigger.
We have tried to get the neighbours onboard but the gardens they are in are rented properties and the tenants are unable to get the landlords to do anything. we looked into it a few years ago and it would have cost £800 just to cut one tree back to the border of our garden.
It is what it is and we get on with it. We have a garden and that is a joy. If we have to have Begonias and Ferns instead of Dahlias so be it.

    2. Yes, Melanie or Proxima is fine. Proxima is my creative alter ego. :) I'm not offended about not being on someone's reading list. I'm terrible about managing my own, I can't get my sideboard as nice as IDV's so I pretty much use his to navigate to everyone's and that's when I bother to show up at all because I'm terribly inconsistent. Oof!

As for the trees, I'm glad you've a good attitude about it! All you can do is try and move on from there. I love ferns and begonias myself! I've got a large lot that I affectionately call "Fernmire". It's mostly wet meadow so I'm working on my "bog witch aesthetic" which is acceptable to kids these days at least, but my older neighbors are a bit nervous.
