Here we are me dears in 2024 looking back on the last year in the garden. It was warmer and wetter than average and almost everything grew but enough of me wittering on, we have a whole year to get through so lets begin the Delargo Towers Garden Review 2023

We had an awful Spring, a hot Summer and a mild winter. Lets hope the weather is kind to us in 2024. Donny wants to reminds us that, -

Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!

Hope you enjoyed looking back on 2023 and are looking forward to 2024 and the beginning of the garden year proper as much as we are.

Roll on Spring

  1. Excellent! Yes, indeed, as this month-by-month record shows, that late frost we had last March was literally a "killer", and caught quite a few plants unawares (especially the Cordyline). Conversely, the "Indian Summer" in September and October gave us the best show of colour of any season..!

As that wise man Alan Titchmarsh said: "We don't have climate here in the UK. We have weather." Constantly full of surprises. Jx

    1. A Spring frost is the most damaging and the loss of the Cordyline, the focal point in the garden was a great shame. I am very pleased that it has shhooted from the base but it will be years before it regains it's former glory.

  2. I was looking out for Donny in every month as I scrolled down but lost him from July onwards. Hardly surprising really, as that's when your beautiful potted garden became really lush and exploded into jungle-like growth!
There's something to enjoy every month, but I'd like to stop in September's Wine Time Corner for a bit, if I may?

P.S. I was quite sad as I got to April, as all I couldn't see was the top of your Cordyline. Let's hope we don't get another freezing March.

    1. Donny moves around a lot and he likes to hide sometimes but he is always there somewhere.
I love my wine time corner and the way the garden changes through the seasons.
Roll on Spring and the cycle will begin anew

    1. Thank you Maddie my dear. We don't believe in garden design, we buy what we find interesting stick it where we can and cram in as much as possible.
The secret is successional planting and the key to that comes from the adorable Carol Klein -
'visit a garden centre at least once every month of the year. Buy something you like that is in flower. By the and of the year you will have a garden that is in flower in every season.'

  4. What a wonderful post! It's fun to see the monthly progression! I like how you make the most of the space you have. If only more people were inspired to do so with nature!

    1. Hello Ms Scarlet. I agree and Spring can't come soon enough for me but I think we have some very chilly weather to come before that.
Having said that our Crocus have popped their leaves up already so Spring is on the way, slowly.

  6. What a wonderful post! I love the awakening of color and form, and then the trip toward Winter again - so beautifully, it must be said! It's like a picture of Hope, really, like a promise that there will in fact be a Tomorrow. XOOO
