The Delargo Gardens April

Oh My Gosh. It is mid May and I and I am only just posting the April garden Blog. The time has just flown by so lets get on with a whistle stop trip of the Gardens of Delargo Towers as they were in April.

April was a month of two halves, starting in late spring with the Tulips and ending in early Summer with Roses

Jasmin

 Thalictrum Aquilegiifolium

 Self sown Mimulus

Lily-of-the-valley in memory of my Mother

 Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost'

Time to jump up into the land rover to to see the grounds of Delargo towers bursting into growth

It is at this point of the tour that we will be introducing a new high light. Just as Monty Don has 'The Mound' in his garden we have had one of our own here at Delargo Towers. It has been constructed up towards the top field. Below is a photo of it being built.

and planted up.

on with the tour

By the end of the month we were heading into May and into Summer.

Clematis 'Nelly Moser'

Scilla Peruviana; Portuguese squill

Aquilegia Swan Yellow

The Essex Rose; grown from seed by the boys in Essex.

Joy of joys. this Amaryllis has been out in the garden feeling sorry for it self for a couple of years. This Spring it has decided to flower.

By popular request Donny has brought back the Fuchsia fest preview. This is - Hot Coals

Well there we are then me darlins. April in a nutshell. Hold on to your hats and we will be back in a week or two with the garden in May

Till then it's

  1. I've sort of given up on Monty, not because of him, but because I always feel so useless/lazy about my gardening! I think I'll bite the bullet today (thanks to your inspiration, sweetpea) and at least, fill the two clay pots on the front garden with something lovely! xoxo

    1. Gosh you were quick of the blocks savannah
Gardening should be a pleasure never a trial. If you do, fab. If you don't fine. Pottering is the key, a bit here and there when you feel like it. If you do nothing mother nature will do it for you and you can call it a natural wildlife garden.

  2. Here we go - Spring has definiately sprung! The black, red and yellow tulips are rather striking, and that pretty little mimulus reminds me of raspberry ripple ice-cream!
I'm pleased to spy with my beady eye Ipomoea seedlings behind your lovely clematis, and foxgloves on the new staging (can't wait to see it full with growth).
Now, who's the bonsai-looking fuchsia in that hanging basket - is that new?

P.S. Your lilies seem to be edging closer to your Wine Time Corner. I'd watch your glass next time you're out there!

  3. Ah yes, April - decent weather for a few weeks before went off to Spain, as I recall. That has really helped everything to shoot up, now we're in the gloomier climes of May... Spring's always a lovely time of year. Jx
