I was over the moon with what Santa Jon pulled out of his sack this morning.
Wow. 'Cooking Price-Wise A Culinary Legacy' - Expanded, Special edition 2017.
Who knew that it was Vincent Price's grand-father that invented Baking powder !
In 1971 Vincent Price was asked to do a cookery programme for ITV. It was short lived and I have no memory of it and indeed only a few clips of it have survived.
His daughter Victoria put this book together with added family memories and recipes.
I knew this dish as carbonnade de bœuf and have always (dispute the French name) thought this to be a classic British dish but it is actually Belgian. Where ever it is from it's a personal fave of mine.
When I was a baby chef Stuffed Peppers were as exotic as exotic got.
Vincent Price was a ' Foodie' before the term existed and a passionate cook and I very pleased to have his book
This is cookery book number 339. I think we have room for a least one more to make it a nice even number.
Toodle Pip.

Vincent Price was so talented in many ways as an actor, raconteur, art collector and gourmet cook. He donated his art collection to East Los Angeles College, and the college has since built the Vincent Price Art Museum on their campus in the city of Monterey Park. A great cook, Price and his second wife Mary Grant co-authored several cookbooks in the 1960’s.

I am so pleased you share my love of Vincent Price, He was a true Polymath and philanthropist. I don't know much about Mary Grant but adored Coral Browne. They must have been great fun to have at a dinner party.
DeleteCoral Browne was one of the best !
DeleteOne can only imagine a dinner party they would host :)

I want to watch Edward Scissorhands now - Vincent Price's Inventor baked cookies before he created Edward.
ReplyDeleteTo my shame I had forgotten that Vincent Price was actually in 'Edward Scissorhands'.
DeleteYou can have the Cookies and I will take Johnny Depp.
So pleased you liked it, dear! A completely random discovery... Jx
ReplyDeleteYou are such a better shopper than me. Thank You.
DeleteOh! Vincent was a good friend; we always swapped atrociously awful jokes. And, sometimes, foody jokes. He used to say "Of course, it must taste good, but food should also LOOK good."
ReplyDeleteHow fab is that! I love that he loved awful jokes and it is both an joy and a privilege to know someone who knew him.
DeleteTHIS IS FANTASTIC!!!! Vincent Price is on my cookbook shortlist! You are so lucky!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe is on the shelf snuggled up between the Sophia Loren cook book and the Two Fat Ladies. I think he would like that.
DeleteOh, I Adored Vincent Price, but, never know he was a Culinary Jedi and had a Cookbook or a Cooking Show!!!
ReplyDeleteHe was an extraordinary man
