The Delargo Gardens - May

It's May and the garden has exploded into growth and flower.

Sown from seed last year the Foxglove Excelsior is a joy and a wonder.

We had to wait till the end of the month for Jon's Rose - 'Veilchenblau' to bloom and it will be at it's best next month methinks.

My Rose - Gertrude Jekyll is one of the first of all roses to flower and has looked and smelt stunning all month.

The Essex Rose was a seedling grown by the boys in Essex. It doesn't do much and the flowers only last a couple of days but I still love it.

Our replacement Jasminum officinale is still very small but big on scent nonetheless.

We have had Scilla peruviana for a few years now. It usually is in full bloom while we are on holiday but we caught it full blast this year. It truly is a wonderful thing.

We are not sure of the name of our lovely new, blue Salvia but it is stunning.

Thalictrum aquilegiifolium. I love this plant more than I can say, so much so we now have four other types of Thalictrum to keep it company.

A new obsesion to add to the list; Clematis. This is 'Nelly Moser'

 Clematis 'Rouge Cardinal'

Clematis General Sikorski

and Clematis 'Comtesse de Bouchaud'

Lilly of the Valley in memory of my Mother.

Our old regal Pelargonium finally gave up the ghost after a good few years and I think this is a worthy and indeed similar replacement.

We all love Aquilegia But the tall stems of  the Swan Series make it extra special. Grown from seed a few years ago now it seeds itself.

Mimulus; another self seeder from last year.

A new display for the kitchen window.

The first Begonia  to flower is Santa Cruz. The others won't be far behind and will flower until the first frosts.

Tradescantia virginiana

Thunbergia is a fabulous climber that no garden should be without. It is still tiny and still has a lot of growing to do but it has decided to flower already.

I grew Campanula medium, common name Canterbury bells from seed last year. The first one to flower is fab but it sister plants that have just come into flower are über Fab. They will feature in the June post i'm sure

Now tiz time for the Grand Tour of our vast estate.

The tour ends in the tea rooms as always and I thought it would be jolly to take a snapshot out of the window.

Another new feature is 'Fern of the Month' and this month It's Athyrium niponicum var. pictum 'Silver Falls' which I adore.

We also have a new occasional feature; the 'Sir David Attenborough bequest'.

This little chap is the juvenile stage of a ladybird, They are amazing. They eat aphids and other nasties. This one is having a little rest before it's metamorphosis into a ladybird. It has already started pupation and with a bit luck we can watch the whole thing.

Donny is pleased to announce the first Fuchsia to appear in this years sneak preview of the 'Delargo Towers Annual Fuchsia Fest' - Fuchsia Deep Purple.

There we are then me darlins. We hope you have enjoyed your visit to the gardens and that you will come back again soon.

Until then -

 it's Ttfn from Donny

and It's Ttfn from me

  1. May is an amazing time in the garden (and a busy one)! The difference between the start and the end of the month - in four short weeks, everything doubles in size and is either in bloom, or getting there - is stunning...

    Great photos.. Jx

  2. Of course, I didn't find one thing of interests or beauty here.

And if you believe that statement, I'll tell you another!!!! All so stunning! You had me at the first two pictures' selections. But that Gertrude Jekyll is absolutely exquisite!! I think the spring and summer is going to be a banner year for gardens. It seems here everything is doing beyond well and growing like crazy.

    1. How terribly kind of you.
Gertrude Jekyll is beyond fabulous and has the most incredible scent to boot.
I enjoy seeing the photos of your garden very much and look forward to seeing a lot more through the Summer.
      Ttfn.

  3. Oh, you had me with the foxgloves and ferns, but I stayed for all the vibrant blue/purple! And the pinks. Well, I would have stayed anyway, because it's all so lovely!
That little raspberry-freckled mimulus is delightful, as are the alien sea creature Swan Series Aquilegia.

I do love the view from the tea room window - and the wildlife. I think I'll have a top up and stay a bit longer.

P.S. My first Fuchsia this year was a Blacky, closely followed by Aunty Jinx.

    1. Hello Mr De. We are over the moon with the foxgloves and they are very tall indeed. Now it is time to sow some for next year.
I love your Blacky but had to google Aunty Jinx, she is adorable.
