The Delargo Gardens - January

He we are again me dears with the first garden post proper of 2024. Winter is far from over and I am sure we will have some casualties but the garden is starting to slowly awake.

To our great surprise and delight the Ipheion uniflorum came into flower straight after a series of hard frosts. We went down to -6'c.

equally joyous is our Sarcococca hookeriana var. digyna “Purple Stem”.

The scent is so powerful it could blow your socks off.

That is about it for the highlights so lets start the tour of the grounds.

The Delargo gardeners have finally got around to erecting the trellis extension to the Eastern boundary fence. Unfortunately the work was not complete in time for the visit of the Delargo Towers official garden photographer.

But bless them, they look after the garden very well and are very cheap.

The Wallflowers are flowering and hopefully will put on more of a show latter on.

At 75 pennies a pop primulas ensure that there is colour in the garden no matter what the weather throws at us.

That's it for this month then me dears. I leave you with Donny who has found a sunny spot to soak up some sun.

Both Donny and I hope to see you back in the garden next month

But till then It's Ttfn from Donny

and it's Ttfn from me

Toodle-loo and Pip Pip.

  1. January's mainly the "waiting room for Spring" - thank heavens for the Sarcococca! The daffs will be up before we know it, and fingers crossed we'll have a good show of colour again... Jx

    1. Thank you dear.
I'm so pleased that the garden gave you a bit of a lift. I find watching the plants wake up from their Winter sleep very uplifting too.

  3. What delightful little flowers your Ipheion uniflorum are! And the Sarcococca showing reminds me that there's one just outside our paysho doors that needs repotting (The Mother bought it a year or two ago and it's languished on the hot, dry paysho, swamped by everything else).

A belated Happy Birthday to you, Madam A!

P.S. Your gardener on the far right does look very cheap. It's a wonder the others get anything done!

    1. Thank you Mr De.
The pretty little blue flowers of the Ipheion were an early surprise flower even before the Daffs, Sarcococca is a joy and I hope yours fares better this year.
As for the gardener Arthur; He is, rather wayward and needs to be taken in hand regularly.
      Ttfn
