The Delargo Gardens - October

Here we are then me darlins.
We are well and truly into Autumn, The trees have turned, the clocks have gone back and we have had a Blue Moon to boot.

But we still have a few stars that have waited till now to take to the red carpet

Our Cobaea scandens has waited till now to flower.
I had to climb a step Ladder to take the photo
We grew both it and nicotiana sylvestris from seed this Spring
They have taken a while but are a joy now when a lot of other things have gone over.
Our late Summer stalwarts are still doing us proud. All the Salvias are still very much in flower but not easy to photograph so you will have to make do with the amazing Amistad.

and Salvia Uliginosa
It has been a good year for Salvias and  marvelous year for our Dahlias.
They are still giving us a jolly show
We still have the odd Geranium
Over the last Summer I have mention the Ferns and Fuchsias.
They both have looked fab for so long it is easy to take them for granteded
But this season they come to the fore as others give up the ghost.
They are a true delight on a gloomy day
colour
and variety
Just gorgeous.
Gosh! look at the time if we are quick we could catch one of the guided tours of the grounds, whichI lay on for the tourists. I would hate for you to miss anything or even worse get lost.

To Much walking ?
Then it's 'Wine Time' methinks.
Well there Tiz me lovelies. November rolls in and I think we will be seeing less of our old favorites and a few more of these and their friends.

Do pop back and see whats going on next month.
Dress up warm and bring a brolly

  1. Excellent - I do hope you get few bookings for the guided tours, especially with the offer of wine at the end...

The garden is still such a joy, even as things are starting to fade all around us. Jx

    1. Unfortunately I have drunk all the wine so there will none for the tourists. They will just have to make do with tea.

  2. HOW???? How do you still have so much colour at the beginning of November?! In Devon everything is muddy green. I must try harder - although it has been brought to my attention that I have been saying that for over ten years!

    1. Stick in a few Salvias Ms Scarlet. You can always rely on them to give late colour before the Pansies, Violas Primulas and Cyclamen kick in. This year we have been lucky that the Fuchsias are still putting on such a fab show.

  3. Boy, your truly lucky to have so much color still left. I love the deep purple of the Salvias, so pretty for the late autumn. We are still mild here, but the only thing still in bloom are roses, geraniums, but only in pots, and dahlias, surprisingly, and mums. But with out first impending frosts at night, the roses and dahlias won't survive much longer. Last at at my mothers, I clipped many roses...and the buds were still abounding. And they had the loveliest scent.

Thanks for sharing Madam....I needed this, with what, our week bound to be hell here.

    1. Roses are a joy especially this time of year. Sadly we don't have any. Our Dahlias are still going into November but not for much longer me thinks. Hey Ho, time to sweep up the leaves and wash the pots ready for next year

  4. At the risk of sounding like Ms Scarlet, I must be better prepared next year, and have a plan for late summer and autumn flowers. Your garden always looks so lovely and colourful and full - it's an inspiration!

P.S. I seem to be catching the fuchsia bug from you - no not the pest, the fascination for the flowers. I realised that I have 9 or 10 varieties this year (I know - I have a long way to go to catch you two up), and plan to have more next year. That white one with the pale lavendar(??) underskirts (pic P1110014) is beautiful!

    1. Wow 9 / 10 varieties that is good going. I wonder what they are?
We love ours and I am glad that you like them too.
The Fuchsia you have asked about is 'Holly´s Beauty' and is rather lovely
I plan to post another Fuchsia Review in the new year so you will get to see our collection then.

    2. "Holly's Beauty" - thank you! I shall have a hunt around the garden centres next year and see if I can find one. I'll also have to rummage around in all my plant labels to find out which fuchsias I've got!

  5. I needed this today! Always such a pleasure to see this splendor. I will be sad to see the color fade into winter.

    1. Glad to be of service Agnes.
We hope to keep at least some colour going through the Winter, which is when we need it the most.
We hate Winter, roll on Spring
