The Delargo Gardens - February

Hello again me lovelies
We started February as one would expect with snow ice and bitter winds but we are ending it with way above average temperatures and a feeling of Spring in the air.

All very lovely but not typical of our garden this month.
We will be seeing more of them in the next post I'm sure.
Our 'star' for February has to be Cyclamen coum

Our primulas have been fab this Winter, the pansys ok and the violas rather disappointing.

We have made a start on tidying and clearing ready for the Spring to start properly

We are hoping to add to our fernery this year

There are rather a lot of planters waiting to be tarted up.

ready to be moved into the best positions to show the plants off.

It is rather like a gardening version of the game 'Tetris'

We are looking forward to seeing what the rest of our bulbs do in march.

and the first of this years seedlings ( hollyhocks ) are already up.

So there tiz then me dears.

Roll On Spring I say !

The Delargo Gardens - January

Hear we are me dears at the end of January. Well into the new year and our second year in our new garden.

A mild month on the whole but even so we have had some frost ( -3 or -4 ) and a little snow too.

There is not a lot to show you but we do still have some flowers

One bowl of dianthus super trouper sissy gave up and died but the other refuses to stop flowering

'Hollies Beauty', 'Thalia' and a few of the other Fuchsias have kept on going sheltered in between the houses

 bella rosella

Amistad which is not hardy has also refused to die down, -

along with the amazing cobaea scandens

We also have the old Winter stalwarts  of course.

Donna Delargo was given these cyclamen for free from our local garden centre. Half dead and mouldy a good dose of athletes foot powder sorted them out lovely. They have been in flower non stop since the Autumn.

Staying with cyclamen but moving on to ' heralds of Spring'

cyclamen coum, dug up and moved from the old garden.

and a very, very early auricula

Miserable and damp it certainly has been.

Our temporary pelargonium house seems to be giving the shelter needed to get our little collection through it all.

We have been able to sit out in the winter sun on a few days

 Outside the kitchen window -

and our back door we still have flowers and plants to enjoy while we start to  think about seed sowing.

also from there we can keep an eye on our Spring bulbs -

while Doncaster Donny can keep an eye on us.

There tiz then me lovelies
We will see what Febuary has in store for us in me next post
So till then it is

The Delargo Gardens - December

Well me lovelies, the solstice has past and here we are in the not so bleak Midwinter. In fact it has been very mild so far.

Evan the snap dragons have refused to stop flowering

Along with pelargoniums

 Salvia Amistad -

 The cobaea scandens -

 and several of the fuchsias'

This is Devonshire Dumpling but I shall resist posting the others as I intend to ( as promised months ago ) post a review looking back at the 2018 collection in the new year.

A quick tour of the garden - looking towards the pelargonium house -

 Down towards the fernery -

 The kitchen garden -

 and the fuchsia walk.

We have been so pleased with our ferns we intend to increase the collection next year.

Although it has been very mild, the damp and the dark does get rather wearing

But we have these little darlins' just outside the kitchen window to spread some cheer.

Every Autumn we invest in a Hippeastrum.

This years is ' Cape Horn' and is very lovely indeed.

So we still have plenty to enjoy now and every sign that we will have even more  when Spring finally emerges.

But don't wait till then me lovlies, join me in January to see what the weather throws at us then and for the 2018 fuchsia review.
