The Delargo Gardens - March

Here we are again then me darlins; as we are saying good bye and good riddance to the Winter. The clocks have gone forward and the cold unsettled weather of the middle the month has given way to more Spring like weather.

This is just one little pot of Crocus but a bundle of joy. Delicate pastel species crocus were succeeded by the bigger and more blousy hybrids.

Now then me lovelies the 1st March is St. Davids day and as this is an half Welsh household we celebrated it big time with Daffs, both inside and out.

Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête'

Narcissus 'Minnow'

And Narcissus ' Daffs from the local supermarket' for St. David's Day

Else were in the garden the Aubrieta was dripping with its amethyst flowers.

They are taking awhile to establish themselves but I adore the Forget-me-not flowers on Brunnera. The flowers are followed by fab silver / platinum coloured leaves.

We would have liked a few more flowerers on the Chionodoxa, known as glory-of-the-snow. Perhaps if we give it some food it might do better next year.

Thanks to Blogger's photo upload the next two photos are stuck together !

Below is the lovely (not a Dandelion) Doronicum  which we first saw in Beth Chatto's garden and have loved ever since.

Above this is Ipheion beloved by us and a favourite of Steve Because. Click this link and enter a world of wonder & befuddlement

We now move on to the bastions, heroes and stalwarts of the winter months and they are still going strong now.

There we are then me dears. Everyone pile into the Land Rover to view the on going major works across the vastness of our entire estate.

Once rested and have scraped the mud off your boots come in for some Champagne and the delight of our Cymbidium Orchid in the Parlour. It only has one flower stem this year but that one stem has 14 sizeable blooms so I don't think we can complain.

We are looking forward to April -

The difference between the beginning of March and it's end has been amazing.

We have Wallflowers and Tulips starting into flower already and the tulips will explode next month

There has been a lot to do this month and poor old Donny has been working so hard that he had to have a Little nap in the middle of the afternoon snuggled amongst some old flowerpots. We will forgive him this time. Bless him.

Roll on April, fasten your seat belts and cross your fingers for fine weather.

till them it's Ttfn from Donny

and

Ttfn from me

Toodle loo and Pip Pip.

  1. Ha! It was indeed a month of ups and downs - but everything changes so quickly at this time of year, it's difficult to keep up! Jx

    1. So true dear, the garden has changed more in the last 4 weeks than it did in the last 4 months !

  2. Your pastel species crocuses are delightful! Mine have been swamped by some Hebes so I must dig them up and put them somewhere else in the Autumn.
And I've just noticed that as well as the expansive Top Field, you also have a vast tract of land alongside the left-hand fence! Do you have anything growing in it apart from those 'Tête-à-tête'?

I'm looking forward to April's display immensely!
