The Delargo Gardens - April

 Here we are again then me lovelies. It has been the coldest Spring I can remember but the garden is growing away like mad. What a difference a few weeks can make this time of year. March was all about Daffodils now that we are at the end of April it is all about Tulips.

So pleased with our generic Tulip mix this year. The violas have grown through them and carried on flowering and are looking lovely

 We also planted a Purple and white mix. There are no signs of flowers on the purple yet but the white one is a joy. It starts as a pale lemon - then turns white with a citrus yellow eye, opens fully looking like a water lily and closes again at night. Love it to bits but just wish I knew the name so we could get it again.

A welcome return and re-flowering from last years bulbs is Tulip Paul Scherer,

  such deep colour it is all but Black.

Teamed with Narcissus Starlight Sensation it adds a bit of drama to the garden.

This little chap bellow is called Minnow and he is rather delightful.

I planted these Lily of the Valley in remembrance of my Mum. They are just coming into flower now and the scent is a joy.

There we are then me dears, now tiz time to climb up into the Land-rover and tour our vast estate
 

We dont normally include the top field in the tour due to health and safety concerns. How ever I wanted to show you the Winter damage to our lovely and once impressive Bronze Cordyline. It was the focal point at the end of 'the Long Walk' and we shall miss it dreadfully. Hopefully we might get some side shoots to sprout after it has had a bit of tree surgery.

you might like to know that the orchid is still going strong but is just starting to fade a little

 To our great joy the Taro from last year is going great guns and is now even bigger than in this photo taken earlier in the month. We can hardly move around the kitchen but it is too cold for it to go out yet.

Donny is on his annual leave at the moment so I have asked Jon to say Ttfn instead.

The Delargo Gardens - March

 Here we are again me dears. March is over and hopefully so is Winter. The garden is re-awaking and everything has started into growth. The birds are singing away but it's still chilly so grab your fur wrap and lets begin our look around the gardens here at Delargo Towers.

This little alpine daffodil is a joy and brightened up a dull month.

 the return of old friends Ipheion uniflorum “Jessie” and “Rolf Fiedler”

Last year's Crocus have flowered again.

 We have had this Chionodoxa forbesei “Pink Giant” for a few years now and it's looking lovely this year

The violas are still going strong even with tulips bursting through on full thrust.

So looking forward to next month when the tulips come into flower.

The Cyclamen has had its last flush and now has gone over.

as have the Tete a Tete daffs but they gave us a fab display for St David's Day.

There we are then me lovelies, A little more to show than last month but I am sure we will have a full house for April. Now 'tiz time to climb up into the Land-rover and tour our vast estate.

We have lost the use of the kitchen. It been taking over by Salvia, Begonias and Dahlias.

We are over the moon that the Taro plant came through the winter without protection and has started back into growth

and we thought you might like to know that the orchid is still going strong and shows no sign of starting to fade anytime soon.

Donny is getting excited and looking forward to the April garden and we hope to see you there, then. There should be lots to see.

The Delargo Gardens - February

 Here we is me dears. February is over but the Winter definitely is not. February is known as the 'cruellest month' and has been living up to its reputation this year.

Having said that we have a bit more in flower this month and some brave things are starting to sprout and shoot

A couple of years ago himself and I had a lovely visit to the wonderful Beth Chatto Gardens in Essex and fell in love with this plant Doronicum orientale 'Leonardo' (Leopard's Bane).

It was growing in the woodland area and was just a joy. We managed to get hold of one last year. It held its flower buds through -8C temperatures, opened as soon as the frost passed and has been in flower all month.

The Crocuses are out

They looked very jolly in what sunshine we had.

The Daffs just started to flower at the end of the month. Much later than last year.

We have started shopping to give the garden a boost of colour and this pretty little Campanula is certainly colourful.

The old stalwarts are still going strong, the Sarcococca hookeriana var. digyna “Purple Stem” is now starting to go over but...

...the scent is lovely and it's still attracting the first brave bees.

Cyclamen coum is doing very well this year and is just a delight.

That's it then me lovelies; it's time to climb up into the Land-Rover and begin the grand tour of the rather chilly Delargo Estate.

Our Cymbidium Orchid is still in flower. No photos this month as it looks exactly the same as last month - fabulous.
