Here we are then me lovelies back in the garden to have a look to see what April had to offer us. It was rather chilly and rather cloudy for the most part but the Spring Bulbs made up for the lack of sunshine.
We love our 'Wallflowers' here at Delargo Towers and traditionally display them alongside Narcissus 'Thalia' and Tulip 'Ronaldo' neither were available anywhere last Autumn, not for love nor money. We substituted them for; Narcissus 'Starlight Sensation' and Tulip 'Paul Scherer'. The result was spectacular and the scent would blow your socks of me dears.
Spring would not be Spring with out an abundance of Tulips. At the time of planting we had a very large clay pot free. As an experiment I crammed 100 tulip bulbs into it to see what would happen.
The lily of the Valley I grow in remembrance of my mother, has flowered well and is starting to form a nice clump.
As the evil 'Weed Trees' spread and surround the garden we are finding woodland and shade tolerant plants more and more useful, our 'Geranium phaeum “Samobor' has put on a wonderful show.
As has our new 'Mimulus'
Also new this month 'New Guinea Impatiens'. They are already look fab.
To our great joy last years seedling of Aquilegia ( Chrysantha ; I think ) Have come into flower and should be stunning next month.
Phlox subulata “Fabulous Rose” is still going strong
as are the 'Osteospermums'
and Doronicum Orientale 'Leonardo' -
There we are are then be Darlins. Tiz now time to climb aboard the miniature steam railway for a tour of our vast estate.
Hope you enjoyed that me dears. We still have just enough time for a little visit to the 'Fernery and Stumpery'. It does tend to get slightly over looked but the ever lovely Mr DeVice noticed and commented on them last month so I thought they should be included in this.
There we are then me lovelies. I will catch up with you in the VIP Champagne Tent after your Stroll through the Bluebell Woods
I hope you have enjoyed your day at Delargo Towers and I hope to see you back in the gardens in May
Ttfn.
Oh, Madam A! What a stunning colour combination those wallflowers, daffs, and tulips make - inspired planting & planning!
ReplyDeleteGeraniam "Samobor" is VERY pretty, and the New Guinea Impatiens really are fab. In fact, they look so good as to be almost unreal. And I love your unfurling fern fronds, of course.
Bolly for me, Sweetiedarling!
Thank you me dear.
DeleteThe 'Wallflower combo' is completely down to Jon. It works so well we have repeated it every year. The rest of the garden this time of year is a festival of primary colours so it is lovely to have somewhere to rest the eye and the scent is divine.
I thought you would like to see some of the ferns unfurling. The black squiggly one is 'dryopteris wallichiana' and is rather fab
Ttfn..
It's already obvious that with both of us paying a little bit more attention to watering and feeding (and a mild winter and Spring as a bonus) is starting to pay dividends. The ferns, the herbaceous plants, the bulbs - all rocketing away! Yay! Jx
ReplyDeletePS we'll continue to repeat that "Spring combo" planter forever, methinks - it's such a joy to the senses...
The Wallflower combo works so well I think it will be repeated every year and yes the April garden was lush. May is already looking like a stunner.
DeleteI love the Tulips, especially the deep purple velvety ones.
ReplyDeleteIt's already looking so pretty in your garden - perfect place for a glass of fizz!
Sx
I cant imagine the garden without them. They act like a firing pistol for a race. After they have exploded on to the scene every thing else in the garden kicks off and its full throttle till midsummer.
DeleteI am with you on having a tipple in the garden. There should always be time to relax and enjoy your garden and a glass of what tickles your fancy can only make it better.

I have been waiting for your first spring photos!!! And they sure didn't disappoint. Our bulb flower here did wonderful this spring and will add more in next year. Our roses including the new plants all came through winter and have exploded with leaves and copious buds already. I am now getting ready to put my greenhouse list together.
ReplyDeleteI just love the color here.
Thank you so much Mistress Maddie for your kind words. I am mortified that I missed reading your comment and have taken so long to reply.
DeleteThe first colour of Spring is a joy isn't it and I am so pleased that you have been enjoying it in your garden and looking forward to seeing the roses bloom
