The Delargo Gardens - October

Here we are again me dears, up to date and almost on time with the October issue..

What an interesting month it was, with record breaking, both high and low temperatures.

Every thing has done well though and we have plenty of colour to see us into Autumn.

We thought that there was an evil Ash tree blocking our sun all Summer but no, it turned out to be an American Black Walnut tree depriving us of our sunshine.

The plants seem happy enough though.

Our dahlia has been amazing this year

It is still flowering well - right to the end of the month.

The Salvias and Spanish Flag are still going strong too.

both pillars of Black eyed Susan are a mass of flowers

They are now either end of the bench so we can enjoy them better

The three expensive but rather scrappy Coreopsis bought from Sainsbury's have not done much but a least have a few flowers now.

They go very well with the late flush from Salvia patens.

Our Perovskia atriplicifolia “Blue Spire” -

all the Verbena x hybrida -

and Dianthus “Super Trouper Sissy” all are having a second flush too

As are the Verbena bonariensis -

Mimulus -

and Pelargonium grandiflorum “Deli”

The early Salvias and the late ones are overlapping nicely; this is the fab sky blue of Salvia uliginosa.

An unexpected surprise was this random self sown 
Cleome “Colour Fountain” - a must for next year methinks.

We are very pleased with that happy chance.

We planted several Coboea scandens this year even along the washing line. they are all looking fab.

I did say last time that I was not going to include the Fuchsias as I intended to give them a post of thir own. They are however just too lovely to ignore:

Summer has gone and Winter is coming !

Here are the first new arrivals to brighten up the cold dark months ahead - Pansies.

Then there is this little beauty getting itself ready to do its thing in the Spring -
Scilla peruviana, the Portuguese squill.

 After being dug up for the move it didn't flower this year. We are looking forward to seeing it next.

The Delargo Gardens - September

Hooray ! We have reached the September post and are now up to date, with the October issue pending.

 The garden is full to bursting point and full of colour too.

Any idea of design, restricted colour palates or having just 4 or 5 types of plant and repeat planting is out of the window !

 And we say 'good' to that !

 Let's have a riot of vulgarity.

 We love it.

The long hot Summer is in it's final stages but the Salvias are starting to kick into over drive.

 Salvia x guaranitica 'Amistad' this year is the best it has ever been.

After a slow start Salvia guaranitica 'Blue Enigma' is doing nicely.

 Ipomoea(Mina) lobata (Spanish Flag) is looking amazing.

 our dahlia has never looked better and for so long !

 Nor the Thunbergia  alata this year we tried  'African Sunset'

Cobaea scandens

 A lovely regal pelargonium that thinks it is a rhododendron.

 and new for us this year Petunia “Surfina”, pink. It has been a mass of flower since early spring and has not gone as scruffy as our normal

We sowed a few nasturtiums to fill gaps and this was all we got !

We did sow very very late though.

 Another new plant this year, a begonia from 'Wilko'

I have never liked them but it has looked fab all summer.

 It is not the end of summer yet just the beginning of the end

But time to think a head to the Spring with bulbs and pansies.

 So pleased with our garden, so pleased the blog is up to date

The Delargo Gardens - August

Here we I am again me dears, feverishly trying to get back up to date for October.

This was how the gardens of 'Delargo Towers' looked in August

I must say for a new garden it looked fab and we are feeling a bit chuffed with ourselves. 

It really has filled up very quickly. 

 and is putting on a good show.

Salvia 'Amistad'  has grown massively and is flowering well.

 A little behind but doing it's best to catch up, Salvia uliginosa

 We didn't know we still had Nicotiana sylvestris until some stray seedlings popped up.

 a climber no garden should be with out, Cobaea scandens.

 and another must, Ipomoea (Mina) lobata (Spanish Flag).

It has been stunning this year.

  This rather jolly climber with it pretty leaf and red flowers is 

Ipomoea multifida

 Here, it is growing up the tree lily now that it a finished flowering.

 We thought we had lost the Asarina (Maurandya) scandens

which would have been sad but again it had seeded itself into odd pots.

 This year we thought to try a different variety of Thunbergia.

I think next year we will stick to the normal orange.
