I am glad that I am restricted to only four photos otherwise this list could have gone on for a very long time.
H.I.H. Regina Fong - Reginald Sutherland Bundy (26 May 1946 – 15 April 2003)
CLICK Here to see Her Imperial Highness on stage. Her show at the 'Black Cap' was a Sunday ritual and an institution. The place would be packed, standing room only and every one know the actions of the routines off by heart.
Phil Starr - Arthur James Fuller; (March 31, 1932 - October 18, 2005)
CLICK Here to see her in action. I adored Phil Starr he was very, very funny indeed, rude but funny.
Two for price of one. Dave Lynn on the left (thankfully still with us) and on the right the much missed Maisie Trollette - David Raven (15 August 1933 – 12 March 2025)
CLICK Here to see Brightons finest in action.
Last but in no means last Lily Savage - Paul O'Grady (1955–2023)
Both Lily Savage and Paul O'Grady are deeply missed by the whole country. He was taken too soon.
CLICK Here to see Lily having a rant.

Ah, the Pantheon of Drag Goddesses! Hope Dave Lynn's keeping well... Jx
ReplyDeleteOld Drag Queens never die, they just move to Brighton.
DeletePretty soon all the old legendary greats will no longer be with us I surmise. And I think it's prerequisite to be rude to be a drag queen. Rude snarky and funny.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a prerequisite and all the aforementioned did it all to perfection (to my delight). not just the routine but the add-libs and put downs of hecklers or just members of the audience!
DeleteNever sit in the front row.
(vvs)
Drag will never die. It is in the Gay DNA. What form it takes is another matter.
DeleteAww...Lily. I miss her, and him.

Lily was awesome but I miss Paul O'Grady on 'Radio 2' more than anything.
DeleteAll four were just WONDERFUL.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear. They were all great entertainers and all very funny.
DeleteBrilliant, all! I loved Dave Lynn in Beautiful Thing!
