Well here we are me dears a little late but then, so is the garden! In fact 2 or 3 weeks later than this time last year. It has certainly been the coldest and wettest May that I can remember.
Be that as it may our is Geranium Maderense finally in flower
Though lovely, this year our tall Aquilegia can't compete with it.
New for us this year is this very sweet Veronica. It is planted with Geranium × oxonianum Wargrave Pink which is a delightful combination.
I have become quite fond of this big, bold and brassy Osteospermum:
Thalictrum Aquilegifolium is looking fab.
Lilly of the Valley planted in memory of my mum. The smell is gorgeous and reminds me of her.
Bluebells remind me of Devon and are just joyful.
Our only other Aquilegia this year is doing well; and we have lots of seedlings for next year ready to plant out.
All stars need a supporting cast:
Last month's stars, the Tulips were still looking good at the start of the month.
The cold and wet has made things a bit on the miserable side for us.
And we are now starting to get a fresh crop of Pelargonium blooms.
With everything being so far behind, we will have to wait till next month to see some of the things that should have been in flower this month.
The Fuchsias in the back passage are still sulking but the Ferns are looking marvellous.
Me seedlings are still waiting to be planted out. We would normally have done that by the beginning of May but not this year!
Hopefully they and the rest of the garden will catch up with themselves in June.
There tiz then me lovelies. A bit of a short visit but I promise to make up for it next time.
ttfn.
The Madeira Geranium has - and still is - an absolute stunner! Worth the wait; it really cheered up a miserable May.
ReplyDeleteJune's going to be "catch-up month", I feel. Jx
I think so too, June has got off to a good start and we should be a blaze of colour by the end of the month if not sooner.
DeleteI so enjoyed this! Always a treat. I will enjoy as our high heat is on early here and things will start baking here now. I loved the Aquilegia. But then can I have a favorite?
ReplyDeleteHello me dear. I am so pleased that you like our little garden. I love the Aquilegia too and have loads of seedlings that should look fab en masse next year.

Does it smell gorgeous in your garden?
ReplyDeleteThe ferns never lie about the wetness of the weather!!
Sx
Dear Ms. Scarlet: I still love you. But I can't find you! Are you invisible?
DeleteHello Ms Scarlet. I must admit our fern collection is doing rather well tucked up the back passage. In fact some are getting so large is is difficult to get passed them.
DeleteThe Wall flowers gave us wonderful perfume in May and now the Jasmine has taken over. It's scent is so powerful you can smell where ever you are in the garden

I need to get myself some Jasmine! I love the smell of Night stock, and Orange blossom too, and Wisteria.
DeleteDear Ms Nations - Love you too!! Try looking at either Inexplicable's Blogrol, or Jon's Blogrol, you will find us all on those :-)
Sx
Holy freakin' wow! This is AMAZING!!! You have exquisite taste in plants and that G. madarense is TO DIE FOR OMG. And the fern! And everything! I have never ever seen this done with containers before (at least not outside a garden center, where they can cheat and add a little this and that) and it is a stunning and very modern effect. My hat's off to you, my bra' off to you, just DAYUM.
ReplyDeleteHello me dear how lovely to see you in our bijou garden ( 9m x 2.5m ) thank you for your kind words.
DeleteWe love plants in fact we are 'Plant-Aholics' and as we have no soil every thing has to be in pots ! June is already looking fab so please pop back and have a look ( Bra or no Bra ).

Oof! Sorry I'm late - rather like the weather, recently...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Madam A, everything's looking rather splendid, isn't it?!
I love your Geranium Maderense, the ferns, and that adorable Veronica. I'm glad to see the Ipomoeas doing so well at long last. They look better than mine, which have flowered (Kniola's Black only) on the early side (because of my molly-coddling: inside, outside, in the red greenhouse, out of the red greenhouse etc etc), however, they're sprouting again, so I'm hoping they'll have a second flush in the summer. My multifidias are looking really awful - on deaths door - but my Cobea scandens are romping away!
Is that your birthday rose in your Wine-Time Corner?
Hello dear boy.
DeleteYou are in fact not late I was but have back dated the post so that it registers as being in May. Trust me our Kniola's Black and multifidias are looking awful and are hanging on for dear life too. The Ricinus are all pathetic and have just sulked for the entire month, only the Black Eyed Susan 'Thunbergia alata' and Cobea are showing signs of hope.
Looking on the bright side yes your eagle eyes did pick out my Birthday rose (Gertrude Jekyll) It has just come into flower. the bloom is the size of a 'Tea Plate' and the smell is Divine.
